Pipe Labels
and Label Printers
Proper pipe labeling, based on the appropriate standards, is important for safety.
Proper
pipe labeling will also improve productivity—paying off on your bottom
line.
Our best
selling label printer for making pipe markers is the DuraLabel PRO 300.
This is an industrial-grade, high-speed thermal-transfer label printer with a very high print resolution. Thermal transfer printing produces highly durable text and graphics that are
resistent to abrasion, water, sunlight and smudging. The DuraLabel PRO 300
also uses industrial quality, indoor/outdoor grade vinyl label stock.
This means you get long lasting
pipemarkers that can stand up to an harsh industrial environment.
Of
course, no materials can survive under all conditions. For example,
DuraLabel Pro 300 labels are not fire resistent and there will always be solvents
and a level of abrasion that can destroy any label. However, for
environments in which labels may be exposed to harsh chemicals,
the DuraLabel Pro 300 can use a chemical resistent ribbon to produce more
durable printing.
High
resolution printing provides an excellent level of quality.
This means that the printing will be crisp, clean and easy to read.
If you use bar codes, the bar codes will be sharp and easy to scan.
Images and pictograms on labels will not be blurred and will be
clear and easy to see. Your labels and pipe markers
will clearly communicate the messages you print on them.

Pipe Labeling Guides
The standards that apply to most facilities
are the ANSI / ASME A13.1 pipe labeling standards. Both organizations
have adopted the same standards. These apply to manufacturing facilities,
utilities, restaurants, hotels, offices, farms, and most other facilities. We offer a FREE
one page quick reference to the ANSI / ASME
A13.1 pipe labeling standards.
In
specialized situations there are other standards that apply. For
example, a different system of labeling pipes is used for medical
gases. And because of the extreme hazard it represents, ammonia piping
systems are usually identified using the standards published by
IIAR. We offer a FREE one page ammonia
pipe labeling guide> that summarizes these standards.
Pipe Labeling on Dirty Pipes
At times you may need to label pipes that are
dirty, oily, or greasy—Or they may be insulated, but unlagged.
Labels won't stick to those pipes, and cleaning them just so they
can be labeled will cost more than you'd like to spend. The answer
is Pipe Grabber™ pipe marking sleeves. These clear plastic sleeves
snap into place on the pipe and provide a clean, smooth surface
for labeling.
To make
pipe labeling even easier, labels can be placed on Pipe Grabbers
in the shop. Then take them wherever
they are needed—you can even use them to label pipes underwater!
Pipe Grabbers snap securely into place, but if you want to be sure
they don't come off, secure then with a couple of plastic ties.
It's fast and easy!
Pipe
Grabbers are available in five sizes to fit pipes
from 1" to 5.2' in diameter.
